English

In English this half term we are going to be writing set detailed set of instructions on how to plant and look after a seed. The children will also be writing a letter.

Maths

Our learning will focus on money where we will learn to count money in pence and pounds. We will be making the same amounts in different ways. We will also be comparing amounts of money and finding change.

We will then move on to learn about multiplication and division. We will start by looking at equal amounts, making equal amounts and adding equal amounts. We will look at Multiplication sentences and using arrays. We will also focus on our 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

Science

In Science this half term we will be learning about plants. We will learn that plants may grow from either seeds or bulbs. These then germinate and grow into seedlings which then continue to grow into mature plants. These
mature plants may have flowers which then develop into seeds, berries, fruits etc. Seeds and bulbs need to be planted outside at particular times of year and they will germinate and grow at different rates. Some plants are better suited to growing in full sun and some grow better in partial or full shade. Plants also need different amounts of water and space to grow well and stay healthy.

In computing we will be focusing our learning on spreadsheets and how to use them.

In history we will be focusing our learning on showing an understanding of different ways to find out about and represent the past, using  a wide vocabulary of topic specific and everyday historical terms, speaking about how you have found out about the past and describing changes in living memory and aspects of national life.

In geography  we will be learning how to use maps, globes and atlases to identify world’s seven continents and five oceans, United Kingdom we will also use basic geographical language to refer to physical features – beach, cliff, coast, forest, hill, mountain, sea, ocean, river, soil, valley, vegetation, season, weather. We will then learn locational language (near/far/left/right) and simple compass directions (North/South/East/West) to describe the location of features and routes on a map. The children will also devise a simple map and create a key using basic symbols and know about changes that happen in the local environment.

In PE we will be learning a range of different ways to include jumping as a means of moving around.

In PSHE our unit will be dreams and goals. Aspirations, how to achieve goals and understanding the emotions that go with this.

Science

In Science this half term we will be learning about everyday materials. We will learn all objects are made of one or more materials that are chosen specifically because they have suitable properties for the task. A material can be suitable for different purposes and an object can be made of different materials.
Objects made of some materials can be changed in shape by bending, stretching, squashing and twisting. For example, clay can be shaped by squashing, stretching, rolling, pressing etc.
