Welcome back, year 5!
Mrs Shepherd, Mrs Walker, Mrs Gorton and I are excited for another half term in year 5. We have been impressed by the good progress the children have made so far this year.
On this webpage you will find information about what we are learning this half term, key events, pictures of the children's learning and useful websites to visit.
If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to send me a dojo message and I will respond within the working week.
I am looking forward to seeing all the progress the children make this half term!

Earth and Space
In English this half term we will be learning to write a mystery narrative based on a short animation and a persuasive text about space.
Our maths unit is multiplication and division. We will be learning how to multiply 2-digit numbers by 2-digit, 3-digit and 4-digit numbers. We will also learn how to use short division methods and how to divide with remainders.
In science we will learn how to describe the movement of the Earth and other planets relative to the sun in the solar system and how to describe the movement of the moon relative to the Earth. We will also describe the sun, Earth and moon as approximately spherical bodies. We will use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.
In computing we will be learning to simplify code, create a playable game and program a simulation using 2Code. We will also know what decomposition and abstraction are in computer science and learn to a take a real-life situation, decompose it and think about the level of abstraction.
In RE we will be exploring the question ‘What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today?'
In PSHE year 5 will be trained in 'Seeds of Happiness'. This is where we will learn about the science of happiness, and how we can positively impact our own happiness levels, and those of our friends and family, by the actions we take.
In PE our unit is health related exercise.
We will complete fitness assessments and participate in circuits that will develop our fitness. We will also understand the impact of exercise on our bodies and the importance of developing our aerobic capacity, strength and flexibility.
If you would like more information about the year 5 curriculum, please look at the long and medium term plans which can be found on the page linked below.
