Year 5

Summer 1

Welcome back, year 5!

Mrs Shepherd, Mrs Walker, Mrs Gorton and I are excited for another half term in year 5. We have been impressed by the good progress the children have made so far this year.

On this webpage you will find information about what we are learning this half term, key events, pictures of the children's learning and useful websites to visit.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to send me a dojo message and I will respond within the working week.

I am looking forward to seeing all the progress the children make this half term!

English

In English this half term we will be learning to write a traditional tale based on a short animation called 'The Saga of Biorn'

Maths

This half term we will be covering a few different maths units. Firstly we are looking at area and perimeter and we will be finding the perimeter of rectangles, rectilinear shapes and polygons. We will also find the area of rectangles and compound shapes.

Our next unit is statistics where we will learn to draw, read and interpret line graphs, tables and timetables.

Our next unit will be shape where we will learn how to measure angles in degrees.

Finally, we will be learning about position and direction and we will focus on reading and plotting coordinates, finding lines of symmetry and understanding horizontal and vertical lines.

In science we will be learning how to classify materials and about states of matter.

In history we are learning about the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain.

In computing our unit is ‘3D modelling’. We will learn about the skills of computer aided design. We explore the effect of moving points when designing. We will also design a 3D Model to fit certain criteria and refine and print a model.
