Welcome to Year 5

Please check out our newsletter below and continue to check in on the website to see what we have been doing in class!

Welcome back to the Spring term!

We hope everyone had a relaxing 2 week break and that everyone is ready for another packed half term. Amongst other things, we will be learning about the oceans, art installations, biographies, coding and the properties of materials, but please see the yearly planning on the website for a comprehensive overview of our curriculum.

As previously, PE will be on Tuesday, so can all children come wearing the correct PE kit on that day. PE kit is white/pale blue T-shirt, dark blue shorts/tracksuit bottoms and black trainers.

Forest school will continue to be on Mondays, starting on 12th January and every other week after that. The weather can be unpredictable at this time of year, so please ensure that children are dressed appropriately for the weather.

Swimming for Year 5 has now finished for the year and will no longer be taking place.

We will be going on our class trip to the Blue Planet Aquarium on 22nd January, please make sure all trip payments are up to date with the office. We will also try to reschedule our church trip from last term and will update you as soon as we have confirmation.

Homework will continue to be set to be handed in on Fridays and will be a combination of online and paper homework. Please check with your child that they have completed their homework each week. Children should also be reading each day and completing their reading journal with a short summary of what they have read, the date and page number.

We look forward to welcoming you all back, and as always, if you have any questions, just ask at the door or get in touch via Dojo.

Regards

Mr Hornby and Mrs Sandiford

Welcome to Year 5!

We hope you have all had a great summer break and offer a warm welcome back to the new school year. Mrs Sandiford and I are looking forward to meeting you all over the next few days, but before we get started, here are a few important messages about the forthcoming term.

PE and swimming will start officially next week – PE will be on Tuesdays and swimming will be on Wednesdays. However, for this first week only, we will do a PE session on Wednesday, so could all children please wear their PE kits on Wednesday this week.

Forest school will be on Mondays on a bi-weekly basis – I will confirm their first session this week.

Homework will be set on Mathletics and Reading Eggs each Friday, to be completed by the following Friday. Home reading diaries are to be filled in each day with the date, number of pages read and a short summary of what they have read. Half termly topic home investigations will continue to be set.

Updates and photos of our work will be posted on the class website and if you ever need to speak to us, please get in touch via Dojo or speak to us at the start or end of the day.

Please make sure all children are wearing the correct uniform for both lessons and PE.

There are lots of exciting trips and new learning for the children to get their teeth into this year which we will release the details of shortly, and although there will be a lot of hard work, we are sure the children will have a great time as they move into upper Key Stage 2!

Kind regards

Mr Hornby and Mrs Sandiford
